what kind of paint?

Okay, the back of the stove is off. Surprisingly, it was not too bad. As with probably all stoves, it was rusty (surface rust mostly). My husband scraped it down and now wants to paint it, using rustoleum. What have most of you used?

I used a high heat paint for barbaque grills. I bought it at HomeDepot. $9.95/qt and used a little over a quart.

I brushed the paint inside the stove (supprised at the original paint - it had lots of runs in it.) Spray painted the rest. Spray cans have hardly any paint. If you have access to a sprayer you'll use a lot less and get a better job.

It's my opinion that any paint today would be superior to the original and it's lasted 50 years!

Thanks for the fast reply. I was looking at your pictures- great job. What did you use to polish the Durachrome top? It looks wonderful.

Chrome polish from NAPA auto parts and an electric buffer. There is approximately 4 hours in polishing the top.

I used high-heat bbq paint, but spray paint.

Hubby used Rustoleum High Heat Spray paint in black. The kind for BBQ, etc....

It has held up well.
